Jack Nicklaus just won again—this time in the courtroom.
A New York judge ruled on Wednesday that the 85-year-old golf legend keeps control over his name, image, and likeness, tossing out Nicklaus Companies' claims. The company, which bought Nicklaus’ old business for $145 million back in 2007, said they had rights over his NIL. However, the court found no contract giving them exclusive control.

The legal fight began in May 2022 when Nicklaus Companies sued Nicklaus in New York’s Supreme Court. The company accused the golf icon of violating contract terms for his own gain, arguing whether he had given up rights to his name and likeness when he sold his intellectual property nearly two decades ago.
Despite the company’s arguments, the court sided with Nicklaus, allowing him to design golf courses and sign endorsements under his own name. Nicklaus Companies may appeal, but for now, the Golden Bear walks away with a win.
As of early 2025, Jack Nicklaus’ net worth is estimated at around $400 million—credited to his successful golf course designs, endorsements, and other businesses.
